Llangatwg Welsh Department aims to give every child the confidence and skills to achieve their full potential in Welsh through the delivery of a vibrant and exciting curriculum designed to meet the needs of every learner.

At KS3 learners follow a scheme of work that follows the requirements set out by the National Curriculum.
All pupils are awarded with a National Curriculum Level (Level 3-7) at the End of Key Stage 3.

Cyfnod Allweddol 4 / Key Stage 4

In Years 10 and 11, Welsh is again compulsory, however the pupils can opt to follow the full or short course option.

At KS4 learners continue to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding in the subject and work towards their GCSE in Welsh. The course targets the three skill areas of developing oracy, writting and reading. The course is innovative and can provide enhanced career opportunities for the future.  



Throughout each year pupils are encouraged to become confident linguists learning skills in Communication, Formal Writing and Comprehension.

Extra – Curricular Opportunities
The Welsh department encourages a positive attitude to the language and culture through a variety of activities including our annual school Eisteddfod, Twmpath, annual visit to Disneyland Paris to celebrate the St. David’s Day festival, St Fagans Christmas event, rugby matches and lots more.
