School Uniform

Our school uniform policy was designed with the help of both pupils and parents. As in most secondary schools it is compulsory and monitored daily.

The Headteacher will make any final decision about appearance if a pupil does not comply with policy requirements.

School Clothing Grant

The Local Education Authority and Welsh Government offer a school uniform clothing grant to families to help support them with the cost of school clothing.

The Welsh Government School Clothing Grant Scheme provides a grant of £125 to £200 per pupil for those that are eligible for free school meals. Accordingly, children of families in receipt of certain benefits will be eligible. Tattoos

Visible tattoos are to be discouraged and wherever possible be completely covered and not be offensive to others.

Pupils Dress Code

  • A White Polo shirt with a school badge
  • A green V neck or round neck jumper with school badge
  • Plain black trousers. Girls may wish to wear appropriate length skirts if they wish
  • Leggings, if worn, should be of thick material and plain black with no motif
  • Black school shoes or plain black trainers

Please note that no other sweaters, hoodies or polo shirts should be worn. This also includes items such as cardigans, zippers, training tops, jumpers, sweaters etc. – as they are not part of the school uniform

Jewellery, makeup and hair colour

Llangatwg pupils should not wear any items of facial or body jewellery e.g. eye or nose studs / rings / bars etc. This is due to the significant Health and Safety risks that they might present. However, pupils may wish to wear one earing (stud or small ring) in each ear and one ring on a finger on each hand. Please also note that jewellery items should be removed prior to PE / Games lessons and handed to teachers for safe keeping.

Pupils should not wear facial makeup and hair colour should be in keeping with the school’s formal dress. The Headteacher will make any final decision about appearance if a pupil does not comply with policy requirements.
