More Able and Talented Pupils

Every learner is important at Llangatwg Community School. Some groups of learners will require additional support to enable them to achieve their full potential. Every learner has skills and talents that we strive to identify and develop to provide them with an excellent foundation for life. We recognise that “More Able and Talented “(MAT) learners have additional needs and must be challenged and supported. It is the role of all staff to ensure that MAT learners at Llangatwg are provided with excellent learning opportunities and support, both in and out of the classroom environment.

Lessons across the curriculum are planned so that MAT pupils are appropriately stretched and challenged in order to achieve their full potential. The progress of MAT pupils is carefully monitored through the school recording and reporting system. In addition to timetabled lessons, there is a range of additional opportunities available to MAT pupils, both academically and extra-curricular.

• Seren Network promotion opportunities.
• Seren Foundation activities including university talks, masterclasses and online workshops
• Debates and Poetry competitions
• Opportunity to take the Additional Maths qualification, which links to A-Level Maths
• Esports
• UKMT Maths challenges and competitions
• Open University Challenges
• University visits and workshops, including Oxford University
• Sporting and expressive arts performance opportunities.
